Gunners Suffer Setback as Blues Maintain Title Charge
Chelsea's Emma Hayes hailed her team's "magnificent" performance after they extended their lead at the top of the Women's Super League with an impressive 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Blues took an early lead through Millie Bright's header, before Arsenal levelled through Frida Maanum in the second half. However, Chelsea hit back with goals from Erin Cuthbert and Guro Reiten to secure all three points.
The victory takes Chelsea three points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table, with the Blues having played one game more. It was a particularly impressive result for Hayes' side, who were without a number of key players, including Pernille Harder and Melanie Leupolz.
Hayes was delighted with her team's performance, saying: "We knew it was going to be a tough game, but we were magnificent. We played with great intensity and quality, and we created a lot of chances. We're still not at our best, but we're getting there."
Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall was disappointed with his team's performance, but he praised Chelsea's quality.
"We didn't play well enough today," he said. "We didn't create enough chances, and we made too many mistakes. Chelsea are a very good team, and they deserve to win."
The win was Chelsea's sixth in a row in all competitions, and they will now be confident of maintaining their title charge. Arsenal, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back when they face Manchester United in their next WSL match.
