Animal Farm By George Orwell Summary Pdf

Animal Farm: A Concise Summary

Old Major's Dream

The novel opens with Old Major, a respected pig, calling a meeting of all the animals on Manor Farm. He unveils his dream of a society where all animals are equal and free from human oppression. This dream inspires the animals, who plot to overthrow the cruel farmer, Mr. Jones.

The Rebellion

With Old Major's death, two ambitious pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, emerge as leaders of the rebellion. They enlist the help of the farm's animals and successfully drive out Mr. Jones in a swift uprising. The animals declare themselves free and establish their own government based on the Seven Commandments of Animalism.

A Distorted Dream

However, Napoleon's power-hungry ambition soon corrupts the revolution. He manipulates the other animals, suppresses dissent, and gradually rewrites the Seven Commandments to suit his purposes. Snowball is banished from the farm, and Napoleon becomes the undisputed dictator.

The Exploitation of the Animals

Under Napoleon's rule, the animals endure harsh conditions and exploitation. They work long hours, are denied basic necessities, and are subjected to constant surveillance. Napoleon and his loyal pigs live a lavish lifestyle, while the other animals suffer. The pigs become indistinguishable from the human oppressors they had so vehemently overthrown.

The Ultimate Betrayal

In a final act of betrayal, Napoleon aligns himself with the humans and sells the farm to a ruthless neighbor. The animals realize the futility of their struggle and accept their fate as oppressed creatures once again. The Seven Commandments are completely disregarded, leaving behind a legacy of broken dreams and shattered hopes.
